Working girl

I started work last week at my local District Attorney's office. For fear of getting dooced, I'm not going to talk too much about it, but there are a few things I want to share. First of all, it never fails to amaze me that people show up to court in flip flops, jeans etc. I especially love the people on trial for possession who are wearing Bob Marley t-shirts. It's all kinds of crazy in district court.

The second thing is that I got to try my first case last week! I lost it, but as the judge told me later, I didn't have a choice; I couldn't dismiss because the victim was there and wanted to press charges, but I couldn't win because she wasn't scared thus she failed to meet an element of the charge. It went ok though, the judge was really nice and talked to me afterwards. I also got ribbed by a defense attorney during a plea bargain, but they've all been really nice to me so far. I'm starting to think about prosecuting when I graduate. We'll see how the rest of the summer goes.

Hey Ryan,
Good luck with the new job, I'm sure it will be much more exciting than the work you did here at AFPMB.

Also, I added your web site address to our blog roll/sidebar on Belly Bean.

Later,
Dave

Ryan, tell us about Europe!!!
