Feet

I haven't had a pedicure in a long time. This is a problem because I spend the majority of the day on my feet, often in heels, and I get very callused feet. I have one of those foot scrapers that they're not supposed to use in nail salons anymore (thanks Paula Abdul) and use it, but I just hadn't gotten around to it lately. I tell you all of that so that you understand this story:

I got a pedicure today. And the lady made fun of my feet. In Korean (I'm assuming). I knew she was talking about the callus parts because she looked at my foot, then picked up the other, then yelled in Korean, then went in the back to get a special tool. Then showed my foot to the lady she was yelling at. Yea.

Also, every time I get a pedicure they ask if I also want a manicure (only $10 more). Then, regardless of if I accept the deal or say no, I am asked if I bite my fingernails and am then told to stop it - partly in Korean. I'm going to keep biting them, so stop yelling at me about it. I don't pay you for therapy!

At least nobody hit me like they did to Mon that time we went with Bex. She took her foot out of the water too early for her stylist (?) and she hit her on the leg. It was quite hilarious.

Summer Nights

Tonight I opened the back door to let out the dog and it smelled like summer. I don't know why. There was this perfect combination of cut grass and fallen rain. There was a breeze and it wasn't one of those sticky kind of nights. It was one of those nights where you wish you had someone to go out on the back porch and sit with you in the rocking chairs and have a beer with, to look up and see what you could of the stars because the pines block out most of the lights, to just be.

Damn, I sound like a freakin' Tim McGraw song.

Theif

There is a girl's room at work. And we have a little cabinet where we can put personal items like a hairbrush or toothpaste etc. I have a little bag that I keep in there with tampons. AND THEY ARE ALL GONE! There was one left today. Now I just have to figure out who is stealing my tampons! I thought that was girl code. I mean, I noticed when 1 or 2 went missing, but it wasn't a big deal. I had about 6 in there yesterday which is what really pissed me off - how did someone (or someones) take 5 and not replace them? Come on!

On a totally unrelated note, I am soooooooooo glad they finally kicked Comfort off of SYTYCD. I couldn't stand her. And it's not because she's a "b-girl" or whatever because I loved Sara from last season - who could actually do other styles of dance. And I felt bad for Thyane because he got stuck with 2 crappy partners and couldn't pull it off. Then again some of the other guys have not so great partners and they weren't in the bottom 3 just about every week. I also think that the judges were a little harsh on Jessica. I don't think she's great or anything, but I don't think she's as bad as they say she is (especially Mia, man she was a bitch yesterday).

I found tahini

There isn't a Whole Foods near me (at least I am not aware of one, which probably means if I go around the corner in the direction I never go it will be right there). There is a Fresh Market. And damn if that store isn't expensive as crap. I know Whole Foods is too, but still. My Fresh Market doesn't have a regular salad bar either - there is an olive bar, and one of those pre-made salad bar (like pasta salad), and a nut bar (hee I just wanted to say nut bar because it's actually a bunch of nut barrels lined up). They also have lots of coffee which smelled really really good.

I went in search of tahini and finally found it. But, those bastards only had really crappy pitas. I can't believe Food Lion has the best pitas - depressing. They did have good pita chips which I bought and a really really good lemon, pine nut & orzo salad. On Saturday I made the felafels - the ones that fried longer tasted better. The dressing (which was what needed the tahini) turned out really well (I think) and I actually kept that and have been using it as dip for the aforementioned pita chips. I had a very Greek weekend. I also had regular hummus and then roasted red pepper hummus (which actually tastes really good on a pizza with feta or fresh mozzarella).

Just thought I'd share my tahini triumph with you because I know you've been anticipating this post since my last one when I was still searching.

Why I need a Target

Tomorrow Layla & I, along with some co-workers, are going to be in the annual 4th of July Pet Parade in Pinehurst. Today I went to PetSmart (and got a harness and a squeaky frog), the Dollar Tree (scented bubbles for some kids) and Walmart (2 DVDs, diet Coke, wooden sticks for a sign). One of the main reasons I went to the stores was to find something to put on the dog's head - preferably a hat designed for a dog with velcro and whatnot, but a head band with bobbles on it would have worked. None of these stores had anything close. Target, on the other hand, has the wonderful dollar isle when you walk in the store. It's full of crap, but said crap is awesome. We went in May and they already had blinking shot glasses, fans, sparklers, crazy glasses etc. for the 4th. The closest Target to my house is 45 minutes away. $1 crap isn't worth the drive time, but damn, I need me some $1 crap isles! And that is why I need a Target.
